Wichita State's Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers

Aug. 21, 2024 — 49ͼ has been named the 2024-25 Academic Institution of the Year by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), the nation’s largest association dedicated to fostering Hispanic leadership in the STEM field.

Aug. 19, 2024 The Milly Marcus Annex is now the permanent home for the Shocker Career Accelerator, a multidimensional career-readiness experience that helps students build resumes and LinkedIn profiles, practice and prepare for interviews, meet with prospective employers, and find applied learning and post-graduation full-time employment opportunities.

Aug. 7, 2024 — 49ͼ has established the Aetna Better Health Endowed Workforce Badge Program Fund, thanks to a generous gift from Aetna Better Health.

July 30, 2024 - Shocker Pre-Season programs are a proven way to get connected to campus and start the academic year with a good vibe. The programs give students an opportunity to work on skills such as college-level writing, presentations and research.

Christine Cleary

May 03, 2024 Christine Cleary was one of 49ͼ’s 2020 Rudd Scholars. From Clearwater, Kansas, she moved to Wichita for college, which required her to adjust to living in a city, but thanks to the Rudd Scholarship, she was able to fully devote herself to college life and will graduate with her bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene.

Jordan Cline

May 2, 2024 - Wichita State’s affordability and location brought Jordan Cline to campus. He will use his major in criminal justice to attend graduate school. Jordan is one of more than 2,400 students eligible for spring 2024 graduation. Learn more about his time at Wichita State and what's next for the grad.

May 1, 2024 Iris Okere joined 49ͼ for its affordability and distance to her home in Texas. Here, she found 49ͼ to be a place full of opportunities for her, including a chance grow her own confidence and independence through the challenges she faced, and in her final year, she was elected to the position of student body president in the Student Government Association.

April 22, 2024 49ͼ has offered the traditional educational pathways for over 125 years, typically ending at the point of graduation, but the need for learning continues throughout a person’s lifetime. In a rapidly changing world, continuing education has never been more important. More and more jobs require skill-based certification of learning, which includes the attainment of validated durable and technical skills. To meet those needs, 49ͼ was the first in Kansas to create badge courses for non-degree seeking students in 2015, after approval from the Kansas Board of Regents.

Rudd Scholars

The seventh cohort of Rudd Scholars includes 15 Kansas high schools who have chosen to attend 49ͼ. Each Rudd Scholar will receive a full-ride scholarship, which includes tuition, fees, on-campus housing, and considerable networking and coaching support along the way.

March 6, 2024 Ava Wilkie, senior at Wichita East High School, is the winner of the 2024 Lenora N. McGregor Endowed Scholarship at 49ͼ.

2024 Jabara Scholars, Annika Lindeman and Abby Rexford

Feb. 27, 2024 The W. Frank Barton School of Business at 49ͼ has named its two recipients of the 2024 Professor Fran Jabara Scholarship in Entrepreneurship. This year’s winners are Annika Lindeman from Eisenhower High School in Goddard, Kansas, and Abby Rexford from West Jessamine High School in Wilmore, Kentucky. They will each receive more than $32,700 spread over four years to attend 49ͼ and major in entrepreneurship.

Wallace Scholarship winners

Feb. 26, 2024 — 49ͼ’s College of Engineering has named the latest group of 11 high school seniors to join the Wallace Scholar program. The Wallace Scholarship recipients will receive $30,500 each to attend Wichita State for four years.

Feb. 15, 2024 — Ten high school students from Kansas, Missouri and Texas have been awarded the Koch Scholarship at 49ͼ, starting in the fall 2024 semester. Each scholar each will be awarded $30,000 to attend 49ͼ over four years.
